An urban, high school IB mathematics teacher rambles on about his day.

Laser Pens

| 19 September 2006
Automatic suspension. District rule.

At the beginning of the year, a kid in my senior credit factory class had a laser pen in class that he was shining around. I told him in front of the class that he better put it away and never bring it back to school. I joked that there was more probability of getting suspended from school by pointing those at people than bringing an AK-47. The kids joked around about it..."Are you challenging us?!". Anyhow, he put it away.

Until today. Not only does he shine it at somebody, he thought that it would be funny to shine it at the teacher across the hall who was teaching at the time.

I'd day the odds are 6-1 that he'll be "automatically" suspended.

Hello - I'm here from the carnival. Ahh, the joys of teaching, huh? Technology makes some things so much easier, but other things...

Better he should get in trouble for that now, than end up "teasing" a cop with it....
